Zinc-based softer metallic-coatings with and without reinforcement of lower concentration ultrafine ceramic particulates for steel - wire services

This paper has discussed the electrochemical behavior of alloyed zinc coatings coated on plain carbon steel wire surface with and without reinforcement of lower concentration ultrafine ceramic particulates like Sic, TiO2, Al2O3 for enhancement of the coating life. Analysis of electrochemical and physical test results have revealed that binary alloys like Zn+0.25% Sic, ternary alloy life Zn + 3% Al + 1.5% Sic and quaternary alloy like Zn + 3%Al + 1% Misch Metal + 1.5% Sic reveal comparatively lower dissolution rate of the overlay – coating or steel wire substrates, resulting in an enhancement of the service life of the coated wire and a drastic reduction of the recoating costs.
